Sulfuric Acid

Process overview
Sulfuric acid is recovered by removing impurities from sulfur dioxide (sulfurous acid gas), which generated during the smelting process of non-ferrous metals, such as copper sulfide and zinc sulfide. HISAKA heat exchangers are often used as coolers for washing columns, drying columns, absorption columns, etc. during the sulfuric acid manufacturing process.

Cleaning and Cooling

The cleaning column is used to clean and cooling SO2 gas. Since SO2 gas contains ash and dust, HISAKA plate heat exchangers that are easy to clean are often used.

Moisture Removal

The drying column is used to remove moisture from SO2 gas. It uses a plate heat exchanger, which saves space compared to irrigation coolers and makes it easy to use materials with high corrosion resistance. Many of HISAKA products are used for this application.

Absorption Column

In the absorption column, SO3 gas that passed through the converter will absorbed by concentrated sulfuric acid. HISAKA WX plate heat exchangers that have their sulfuric acid side welded are used as circulating sulfuric acid coolers to remove the absorbed heat.

Cooling

98% sulfuric acid that leaves the absorption column is cooled to a specified temperature and transferred to the product tank. HISAKA heat exchangers are used as coolers for this sulfuric acid product.
